Ears to the Ground highlights the evolution of experimental music in the Global South through field recordings and sonic experiments.
This mix weaves together our own field recordings with electronic music archives, including pieces from the NID Tapes – a collection of early Indian electronic music uncovered at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, early wire recorder and electronic works from Egypt by Halim El-Dabh, as well as the work of many modern day practitioners from India, Bangladesh, Palestine, Kenya, and Indonesia.
The field recordings you will hear interspersed across this mix were recorded in the Western Ghats, a mountain range on the West Coast of India and a region of tremendous biodiversity and endemism.
ABOUT EARS TO THE GROUND
Ears To The Ground is a trans-media project from Indian sound-artists Krishna Jhaveri and Sanaya Ardeshir which centers activated listening, field recordings, and the potential dialogue around climate justice through sound-forward spaces, experiences and installations.
